Practice Research at RMIT
In 2011 the practice partners were invited to take part in the Practice Research Program at RMIT University. This involved three and a half years of reflective and innovative study under the direct supervision of Professor Leon van Schaik, and included the participation in Practice Research Symposia in Ghent and Barcelona.
The work is a reflection of 20 years of architectural practice mainly between two countries (Britain and Russia) by two architects, Tanya Kalinina and James McAdam. It seeks to understand the workings of the bicultural practice McAdam Architects. Through this research we explored the practice’s realisation of a diverse body of work, teaching and educational programs, and strategic activities to promote the architectural profession.
This research culminated in a public exhibition and presentations at the Collegi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya (COAC) in Barcelona in November 2014, and the publication of two catalogues entitled Biculturalism in Architectural Practice.
