Crouch Hill Station, London
Refurbishment and conversion of existing Station building and ticket office, with new residential building on adjacent land plot.
The site is set on a strip of land and buildings raised parallel to the working station platform, at Crouch Hill Overground Station in North London.
It comprises 2 listed buildings – the Station house, which is to be converted to 2 no. large maisonettes and the ticket office, which is to be converted into a public space theatre or gallery with café. Both existing buildings are to be carefully refurbished and enhanced to their former appearance.
On the adjacent land plot will be a new, contemporary five-storey block of flats. This will contain 7 no. units, with a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom flats. The building is designed as a compact box planned around a central lift and staircase.
The volume attempts to combine the ambience of industrial railway London with modern-day residential requirements. Visually, it combines contextual brickwork and large functional areas of glazing, with occasional balconies and terraces. On the top floor is a recessed penthouse which is clad in zinc.
Planning stage is ongoing.
